Happy Camper
Posted by The Foo in Life through my eyes

sn005gry_pip.jpgI bought a nice atomic watch from Sharper Image over the weekend. I meant to spend my $100 gift card weeks ago but the mall we went to (on the other side of Cleveland) didn’t have the store there.

Being a guy that loves his watches (I have a large collection indeed), this has to be one of my favorites. I’ll have to call it the Hummer of all watches due to the sheer size of its watch face. This watch is probably twice or three times the size of my other watches. It dwarfs a Casio G-shock. If you know what a Casio G-shock looks like, you’ll know what I am talking about.

One slight problem I have with it, is the way the date is displayed. Considering it is sold in the USA, I find it odd to find the date display set to a European/ Asian style setting i.e. the day is first then followed by the month. Even living in Asia and England, although the dates were written as such, I never had digital watches that I bought there displayed that way.

Either than that, this watch is a unique one, it not only auto-synchronizes its time to an accuracy of 2 seconds in one country (the USA) but in 3 other global zones too — United Kingdom, Germany (which covers all of Western and some parts of Central Europe) and Japan (covering all of Japan and Korea). The other nice handy functions include a countdown timer, a stop watch, alarm and a dual time setting… ones normally found in a decent digital watch.

The rest of my $100 gift certificate was spent on a silver travel alarm clock and a cool desktop fan. J had to drag me out of the store as I could have spent the whole day there. Ending with a visit to J’s favorite grocery store Trader Joe’s to pick up a Chocolate Tort cake and several other delicious oven bakes, I’ll say our trip was pretty resourceful. I’m definitely a happy camper, that is until I next see something on Gizmodo or Thinkgeek I want but don’t necessarily need.

  • That is a great watch Mel. I can understand what you mean about the date being back to front. I used to find the American way confusing when I had to fill in the web forms.

I have you enjoyed the cakes!
